Toolset Lesson - Cordless Drills

In this Toolset lesson, the students will be identifying the different parts of a cordless (battery powered) drill. They will then use this knowledge to insert a drill bit to drill a hole in wood, followed by taking the drill bit out. 

Learning Intentions for this Toolset lesson are:



Students will:

  • Know the different parts of the drill and their specific functions (TS)
  • Load and unload drill bits correctly (TS)
  • I explore new materials and new areas (MS)
  • I think about and respond to feedback (MS)

Toolset lesson - Using a Handsaw

This toolset lesson focused primarily on the correct technique when cutting wood with a handsaw. The students watched a short introductory video (below) before transferring what they had learned into practice. A strong component of this toolset lesson was how to maintain physical safety in the process.

The toolset (TS) and mindset (MS) learning intentions were:

  • Students will effectively and safely use a handsaw to cut wood (TS)
  • Students will make straight and accurate cuts along a reference line (TS)
  • I explore new materials and new areas (MS)
  • I think about and respond to feedback (MS)

Toolset Lesson - Camp Cookers

One of today's tool set lessons was on 'Camp Cookers'. Students had to gain a greater understanding of how to use a camp cooker, they also had to take into consideration a range of variables: wind, placement of cooker, access to water, safety and equipment to assist them.

The Learning Intention was:
  • TS - Students will effectively and safely use a gas cooker in preparation for the overnighter. 
  • TS - Students will organise themselves taking into consideration the tools and equipment they are using,
  • MS - I ask questions which lead to a better product
